PELICAN BEACH ROLEPLAY

Good stories
start with respect.

Shared rules make a safe, friendly and living city
for everyone who is part of Pelican Beach.

DRAFT
01Respect and communityShow respect to other players. Give each other room to create good stories.
  • No harassment, hate or threats outside the story.
  • Treat everyone the way you want to be treated, in the city and on Discord.
  • Help newcomers. Everyone was new once.
Teasing a friend in character is fine. Real insults are not.
02Stay in roleKeep the story in the city.
  • No talk about the game, the server or the controls while you play.
  • Say what your character would say, and act like it is real.
  • If you must step out of the story, say so in the out-of-character chat (OOC) and keep it short.
Say “the car is broken”, not “it is lagging”.
03Fair playPlay to have fun, and let others have fun too.
  • No cheats, hacks or exploits. They are logged and lead to a ban.
  • Report bugs, do not use them to get money, items or an edge.
  • Do not ruin the scene for others just because you can.
Report a duplicated item. Do not duplicate it again.
04Staff decisionsStaff keep the city fair, and their decisions are final in the moment.
  • Follow staff instructions right away. Argue about it later, in a ticket on the Discord.
  • Never argue with staff in the city.
  • Staff are players too. Be kind to them.
A staff member asks you to stop. You stop, and open a ticket afterwards if you disagree.
05Keep it friendlyA city for everyone.
  • No hate speech, slurs or sexual harassment, in or out of character.
  • Do not use the real world to hurt people. Real politics, religion and tragedies stay out of the story.
  • Respect it when someone asks you to stop.
A villain can be rude. A villain cannot be racist.
06Separate player and characterWhat your character knows is not what you know.
  • Do not use information from Discord, streams, other characters or earlier lives in the city.
  • Your character only knows what it has seen and heard.
  • Do not use out-of-game information to find people or places.
A friend tells you on Discord where a stash is. Your character does not know it yet.
07Realistic actionsDo what your character can do, and let others respond.
  • Do not force actions on others. Give them a chance to react.
  • No superhero stunts: your character has limits.
  • Use /me and other emotes to show what you are doing.
Instead of “I take your keys”, say what you try to do, and let them respond.
08Value your lifeAct like your character wants to live.
  • If a gun is pointed at you, take it seriously and comply.
  • Do not run towards danger without a reason, and do not shrug off wounds.
  • Fear is part of the story.
A robber demands your wallet at gunpoint. You give it, and tell the police afterwards.
09The new life ruleWhen your character is out, the story moves on.
  • When your character is downed and revived, you may not remember who did it or what happened leading up to it.
  • Do not return for revenge, and do not use what you saw.
  • A new life means a new start. Do not carry the old one with you.
You were robbed and left for dead. You do not know who it was, and you do not go back for them.
10Your characterA believable person with a name.
  • Use a realistic name. No famous people, jokes or insults.
  • Give your character a background and a reason for being in the city.
  • You can play several characters. Keep them separate.
Not “Elon Musk”. A real name, a past and a plan.
11Stay in the sceneDo not log out to avoid the consequences.
  • Do not disconnect during an arrest, a chase or a fight.
  • If you have a real problem, tell the others in the OOC chat before you leave.
  • Staff may decide what happens to a character who leaves in the middle of a scene.
If your game crashes, come back and tell the others what happened.
12Every fight needs a storyNo random killing.
  • Have a reason in the story, and let the scene play out.
  • Violence is the end of a story, not the start.
  • Do not kill or attack people just because they are there.
A debt, a threat or a robbery is a story. Shooting a stranger is not.
13Give the other side a chanceCrime is a story for two.
  • Give the other side time to respond and make choices.
  • Do not rush a scene so that it ends before anyone else has had a say.
  • Talk first. Fight second.
Let the shopkeeper talk before you pull the trigger.
14Robberies and hostagesHigh risk, high reward, and high responsibility.
  • Hostages are people. Treat them like it, and do not harm them without a reason.
  • Do not rob someone with no money just to make a scene.
  • Expect the police, and play your part when they come.
Take a hostage, make a demand, and let the negotiator speak.
15Safe placesSome places are off limits for crime.
  • Staff may mark places as safe zones: the police station, the hospital and the starter areas are examples.
  • Do not start fights, robberies or chases inside a safe zone.
  • Do not use a safe zone to avoid the consequences of your actions.
Wait until the person leaves the station before you start the story.
16Cars are not weaponsDo not drive into people on purpose.
  • No vehicle deathmatch (VDM): running people over for fun.
  • A car crash has a cost for your character.
  • Using a vehicle in a story is fine. Using it to kill is not.
Running a red light is a chase. Ramming a crowd is a ban.
17Drive like it mattersCars, bikes and trucks have weight and risk.
  • Do not use your vehicle to break the story.
  • A crash hurts: slow down and take care in traffic.
  • Do not jump the harbour wall for fun with a loaded trailer.
A careful driver gets there. A crash costs time and money.
18Park and keep clearDo not block the city.
  • Park in garages and legal spots. Abandoned cars may be towed.
  • Do not block roads, entrances or job locations on purpose.
  • Do not leave vehicles on the roads to bait others.
Park outside the shop, not in the doorway.
19Play the jobA job is a role. Play it.
  • Do the work you signed up for, and do it well.
  • No AFK farming or looping a job without playing it.
  • Treat customers, colleagues and the public with respect.
A trucker who delivers on time builds a reputation.
20Police: use your power fairlyThe police are role players too.
  • Follow procedure. Arrest with a reason, and explain it.
  • No abuse of power, no corrupt behaviour outside the story.
  • Respect the line of sight and the chase: you only know what you have seen.
  • Leaders are held to a higher standard.
Charge a suspect for what they did, not for who they are.
21Surrender and arrestsA good arrest is part of the story.
  • If you are tased, you are arrested. Do not run into a taser and then log out.
  • Put your hands up next to the officers to surrender.
  • Do not break out of an arrest by cheating or an exploit.
Hands up, and the story goes on in the station.
22The islandFar from the law, but not from the rules.
  • There are no police on the island. Everything you carry is at your own risk.
  • If you die there, you lose almost everything you carry.
  • All the other rules still apply: stay in role and respect the others.
Pack light. If it matters, leave it in a locker.
23Report bugs, do not use themTell us, and we fix it.
  • Tell staff in the Discord when you find a bug.
  • Do not use a bug for money, items or an edge.
  • If you used a bug before you knew, tell us and we can help you.
Report a duplicated item. Do not duplicate it again.
24Cheats and hacksZero tolerance.
  • Cheats, hacks and mod menus lead to a ban.
  • We log what happens in the city, and we do not undo a ban for cheats.
  • Do not help or hide others who cheat.
Mod menus, aimbots and speed hacks are all cheats.
25Report a playerRules are for everyone.
  • Open a ticket in the Discord.
  • Add the names, the time, what happened and, if you can, a clip.
  • Do not take things into your own hands in the city.
A short, clear report with a clip is the quickest way to get it solved.
26Streaming and clipsDo not use a stream to find people.
  • No stream sniping: do not use a stream to find players or places.
  • If you stream, delay it, and keep the stream safe for the others.
  • Do not show private chats or staff talk.
Watching the chat gives away where your friend is hiding. Do not use it.
27AppealsWe can be wrong.
  • If you think a ban or a warning was a mistake, open a ticket in the Discord.
  • Be calm and honest, and tell your side.
  • Staff will review it, and reply when they have.
Explain what happened, and what you want changed.
